Easy Upside-Down Pear Dutch Baby Gluten-Free Recipe

I wanted to create a breakfast or dessert using fresh pears with minimal effort. It’s one of those days when I’ve been super busy shopping for ingredients and planning my recipes for the next few weeks. Enter the Upside-Down Pear Dutch Baby—so easy to make!

A traditional Dutch baby is a large German pancake made in a cast-iron skillet, often topped with fruit or savory ingredients. This recipe follows the same technique but with a few simple changes.

One-Pan Upside-Down Pear Dutch Baby: Easy Gluten-Free Recipe

First, I briefly cooked the pears in butter, cinnamon, fresh lemon juice, and a little coconut sugar. The best part? I used the same 8-inch round cake pan that I would later bake the Dutch baby in, making cleanup a breeze!

While the pears are softening—this takes about 3 minutes—I placed all the remaining ingredients into a blender and whipped them up. As soon as the pears were ready and still hot, I poured the batter over them and immediately placed the pan in the oven to bake.

The temperature of the pears is crucial for the best results! Make sure to add the batter as soon as the pears finish cooking.

Flipping for Perfection: A Scrumptious Pear Treat

Once the upside-down Dutch baby is finished baking, simply flip it onto a plate to showcase the beautifully caramelized pears. What I love about this dish is that all you taste is the sweet, caramelized pears paired with a light and fluffy pancake-like cake—pure perfection!

The best part? Although I created this as a breakfast or brunch dish, this gluten-free pear treat also makes for a healthy-ish dessert! I always add a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on top of the warm pears so it melts right into the pears. YUM!
