Ingredients

  • 1 lb. boneless flat iron steak or round steak, cut into ¼-inch thick strips
  • 2 Tbsp. tapioca starch/flour, divided
  • 3 minced garlic cloves, divided
  • ¼ cup Sake (Japanese dry wine), divided. If you don't have Sake you can use sherry
  • 2 Tbsp. grapeseed or coconut oil, divided
  • 4 cups small broccoli florets (about 1 lb.)
  • 1 medium-size onion, halved and cut into ½-inch segments
  • 1/3 cup gluten free beef broth
  • 1/3 cup gluten free Tamari sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. minced ginger (I use 2 Tbsp. because I love the ginger flavour)
  • 1 Tbsp. honey or agave syrup
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • Instructions

  • In a medium size bowl combine 1 tablespoon tapioca, 1 minced garlic clove and 2 tablespoons of sake. Add beef and mix well. Set aside
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a wok or large non-stick pan over high heat. Add the broccoli and onions and stir-fry for 1 minute. Transfer to a large glass bowl and cover with a plate, allowing the veggies to continue to cook
  • Add the remainder of oil to the wok and heat until smoking. Add beef and stir-fry for 2 minutes. The beef should remain pink in the middle
  • While the beef is cooking combine broth, Tamari sauce, the remainder of tapioca starch, the remainder of garlic, ginger, honey and sesame oil. Add the sauce to the beef with the reserved broccoli and onions. Stir-fry until the sauce thickens about 1 minute. If the sauce is too thick add a little more beef broth
