When it comes to hot gluten free appetizers this recipe is one of my favourites. The recipe is simple and can be prepared 24 hours in advance, leaving you time for more important things to do when entertaining. This hot appetizer is made with dates stuffed with melted Asiago cheese and wrapped in crispy bacon.

Ingredients

  • 12 large pitted Medjool dates
  • 4 low sodium, low fat GF bacon slices, cut into thirds
  • 12 pieces of Asiago cheese cut into 1/2-inch thick match sticks
  • 12 appetizer toothpicks
  • Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 F and place oven rack in the middle of the oven
  • Stuff each date with 1 piece of Asiago cheese (I use a chopstick to push it through) and wrap tightly with bacon, securing with a toothpick
  • Place dates about 1 inch apart on a baking pan lined with parchment paper
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until bacon is crisp. Drain bacon wraps on paper towel for 1 minute. Serve hot
