Mozzarella sticks are easy to prepare and quick to cook. These gluten-free Italian mozzarella sticks are too good to miss out on, crispy on the outside with melted cheese on the inside. The crispy coating is deliciously flavoured with Italian herbs complementing the mild cheese. I call it finger food to linger over. Serve as is for an after-school snack, or with fresh tomato marinara sauce at large get-togethers

Ingredients

  • 12 Mozzarella string cheese sticks or mozzarella cheese cut into 3/4-inch x 3/4-inch sticks
  • 1 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 Tbsp. Coconut flour
  • 1 Tbsp. GF cornmeal
  • 1 tsp. GF baking powder (preferably aluminum free)
  • 1 tsp. GF dried basil
  • 1 tsp. GF dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. GF garlic powder
  • 2 eggs, whisked
  • Oil for frying
  • Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, combine Parmesan cheese, coconut flour, cornmeal, baking powder, basil, oregano and garlic
  • Dip each piece of cheese in the eggs, then roll in Parmesan mixture to coat. Dip in the egg and cheese mixture again. Place on a tray and freeze, about an hour in the freezer
  • Heat about 1/2-inch of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Flash-fry each cheese stick for about a minute per side until golden and before cheese starts to leak. Drain on a paper towel
