Gluten-Free Apple-Raisin Crumble with Oat Topping

When I make this gluten-free apple raisin crumble with oat topping recipe, I always have trouble deciding if this is a dessert or breakfast. The apples are slowly baked with cinnamon, raisins, maple syrup and vanilla and topped with a crunchy oat topping. Truly an amazing dish! So the question remains, is this a dessert or breakfast. For me, I start serving it as dessert with cream, and if there are any leftovers, I serve it as breakfast with yogurt. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 4 Large baking apples, peeled, cored and sliced (honey crisp or granny smith are excellent)
  • 1/2 cup sulphite free raisins
  • 1 Tbsp. Pure maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 tsp. GF ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. Pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup gluten-free all-purpose baking flour
  • 3/4 cup coconut sugar
  • Pinch of pure sea salt
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or coconut oil (vegan option)
  • Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 360 F and coat a 9-inch deep pie dish with spray oil
  • In a large bowl toss apples, raisins, maple syrup, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and vanilla to evenly coat. Pour into prepared pie dish
  • Using the same bowl mix oats, flour, coconut sugar, sea salt and remaining 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Spread dry mixture over apples and lightly pat down. Pour melted butter or coconut oil evenly over the topping
  • Bake for 40 - 45 min until golden brown
