Cherry Chia Jam – Easy Recipe

Most store-bought jams are packed with sugar and sometimes colour and various additives. This easy to make jam is without the sugar and unwanted additives, but most importantly it includes chia seed to make it more nutritious. Chia is well known to be a superfood, containing healthy omega-3 fatty acids, protein, fiber, antioxidants, and calcium. This cherry chia jam takes only 5 minutes of prep time, and 10 minutes of cooking time best of all you control the sweetness. Serve with gluten-free toast, in yogurts or add to smoothies.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. fresh or frozen pitted cherries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp. GF ground cinnamon
  • Juice and zest of 1 small lemon
  • 1/3 cup Chia seeds
  • Instructions

  • In a large saucepan combine everything except chia seeds. Cook over medium-high heat for 10 minutes, stirring frequently
  • Remove from the stove and cool. Taste for sweetness, if you like the jam sweeter add more maple syrup
  • Add chia seeds and mix well. Set aside for 5 minutes. Mix one more time and transfer to a glass jar. Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours
  • Note: this jam will keep up to 30 days when refrigerated
