Preheat oven to 350 F and line a 9-inch square or a 9-inch springform pan with parchment paper

In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, sugar, salt, and nutmeg until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and maple extract

Whisk the two flours with baking soda, and gradually add to the butter mixture. Mix until smooth.

Spread about 2/3 of the batter into the prepared pan. Spread with pie filling
- 5.
Drop remaining batter by teaspoonfuls over the filling and top with cherries cut side facing up. Bake 35 - 40 minutes until golden brown.

In a small bowl, mix the glaze ingredients and drizzle over top (if using)
