Gourmet Homemade Popcorn (Gluten-Free)

Nothing beats freshly made buttery popcorn at home. Not only the popcorn tastes better, but it is without preservatives, colourings and unhealthy oils that most store-bought microwave popcorn has. Popcorn makes for a delicious movie night snack or after school treat, and it takes less than 6 minutes to cook

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. Coconut oil
  • 2 Tbsp. Salted butter plus some for topping
  • 1 tsp. Himalayan salt or pure sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp. GF ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp. warm water
  • GF coarsely ground black pepper to taste (optional)
  • * For best results buy good quality popcorn kernels. I have tried few varieties and found that these popcorn kernels gave me the best results
  • Instructions

  • Add coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of butter to a large pot over medium-high heat. I used Dutch Oven Pot
  • When the coconut oil and butter is melted, mix turmeric and water and stir into the hot oil mixture
  • Add kernels, and shake to spread evenly in the pot, then cover the pot. After the corn starts to pop, shake the pot briefly and then again about halfway through
  • While the popcorn is popping melt butter for the topping. Use as little or as much butter as you like. (I used 3 tablespoons)
  • As soon as the popping stops, about 5 minutes, transfer the popcorn into a large bowl or a large paper bag. Pour melted butter over popcorn, sprinkle with salt and if using add pepper. Shake and toss until popcorn is coated
  • Serve immediately
