Stuffed Figs with Goat Cheese and Pecans Appetizer

Fresh figs make a delectable healthy appetizer. This gluten free recipe couldn’t be simpler or quicker to prepare, yet is deceptively impressive as far as flavour and appearance. The sweet figs are oozing with deliciously flavoured goat cheese filling and are topped with lightly roasted pecans. These delicious morsels make a lovely addition to a cheese platter or as a luscious after dinner sweet. This gluten free appetizer is always a big hit at any dinner party. Serve warm or room temperature

Ingredients

  • 10 small fresh figs
  • 4 oz. goat cheese, room temperature
  • 2 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1 tsp. cracked GF black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 10 pecan halves
  • Instructions

  • Preheat oven to broil and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Trim off stems of figs and if need to, slightly shave a little off the bottom. This helps the figs to stand upright. Cut an X in the top of each fig ½ way through
  • In a small bowl mix cheese, maple syrup, lemon zest and pepper. Place cheese filling into a piping bag. You can also use a plastic bag by cutting off the bottom corner
  • Divide filling into each fig and place on prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush each fig with melted butter
  • Broil figs for about 3 - 4 minutes or until the goat cheese starts to brown. At this point top each fig with pecan half and broil for 45 seconds more
