Gluten Free Cinnamon Donuts Recipe

Make delicious gluten free cinnamon donuts with this easy to follow recipe. When it comes to special treats, gluten free cinnamon donuts always make the list. Making them from scratch can seem overwhelming, but they are fast and easy

I especially like to bring these to kids birthday parties instead of the usual cupcakes. They just love them. Bring various toppings and let the kids decorate the donuts by themselves. Since they are gluten free and nut free, they make a tasty sweet treat for children’s birthdays. Some other favourite toppings are chocolate glaze and maple glaze. It is important to remember that donuts are treat on special occasions only


  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 cups buttermilk, room temperature
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 3 1/3 cups white rice flour
  • 1 cup + 1 Tbsp. potato starch (not flour)
  • ½ cup + 2 Tbsp. arrowroot powder
  • 1 cup coconut sugar or organic sugar
  • 2 tsp. xanthan gum
  • 2 tsp. baking soda (preferably aluminum free)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • Coconut oil or Grapeseed oil for frying
  • Coating: ½ cup coconut or organic sugar with 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • Instructions

  • In a large bowl whisk together eggs, buttermilk and butter
  • In a separate bowl combine dry ingredients
  • Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix with a spatula until all the ingredients are well combined. Use your hands if need to be. Set aside for 20 minutes
  • Sprinkle some rice flour on your countertop and roll the dough to about ½-inch thickness, using flour as needed
  • Cut out donuts using a donut cutter. Make donut balls from remaining dough scraps
  • Heat 2-inches of oil over medium-high heat in a large frying pan and drop in donuts. Cook until golden brown on each side. About 3 minutes per side. Place cooked donuts on a paper towel to absorb any extra oil
  • While still warm, roll the donuts in cinnamon sugar mix
  • The donuts are tastiest when eaten the same day
